The Watkins Glen Central School District is proud to announce a thoughtfully designed leadership succession plan for Watkins Glen High School, ensuring excellence, stability, and mentorship during this transition.
As many of you know, Principal Kyle Colunio will begin his new role as Superintendent of the South Seneca Central School District on March 8, 2025. We extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. Colunio for his visionary leadership, unwavering commitment, and dedication to WGHS over the past four years. His impact on our school community has been profound, and we have no doubt that he will continue to lead South Seneca with the same distinction and success he demonstrated at Watkins Glen.
To ensure continuity and support, Jamie Harter has been appointed Interim High School Principal for the remainder of the 2024–25 school year. With decades of leadership experience, Mr. Harter’s steady guidance will be instrumental in this transition. His mentorship and expertise will provide invaluable support to both students and staff as we prepare for the next chapter.
Looking ahead, we are proud to announce that Marcy Brubaker, a highly respected educator, mentor, and teacher leader, will gradually transition into the role of High School Principal. This structured leadership handoff will ensure a seamless transition and continued success for our students, staff, and community.
Beginning in July 2025, Marcy will serve as an administrative intern, working closely with Mr. Harter and the leadership team to gain hands-on experience in school administration. She will officially assume full principal responsibilities on February 2, 2026.
A proud graduate of Arkport High School, a GST BOCES component school, Marcy earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Delaware Valley University and her Master of Science in Secondary Education from Alfred University. She further expanded her expertise with an Advanced Certification in School Climate and Social-Emotional Learning from Quinnipiac University and is in the final stages of completing her Educational Leadership degree at SUNY Oswego.
Since joining the Watkins Glen Central School District in the early 2000s, Marcy has deeply embedded herself in the school community, which she now proudly calls home with her family. She has built an exceptional career at WGHS, serving as a dedicated science teacher, department and committee leader, championship-winning cheerleading coach, and a steadfast advocate for students. Her passion, leadership, and dedication have played a pivotal role in shaping school culture and student success.
We are confident that this carefully planned transition, rooted in mentorship, leadership coaching, and an unwavering commitment to student success, will ensure a bright and promising future for Watkins Glen High School.
Please join us in:
Congratulating Mr. Colunio on his new role and wishing him continued success.
Thanking Mr. Harter for his reliable and dedicated interim leadership.
Celebrating Marcy Brubaker as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her distinguished career.
United, we look forward to an inspiring future for Watkins Glen High School!
